We recently learned of a new way to access the Exmoor Longstone near Challacombe. In the past we have walked from Lynton to the stone via Ilkerton (Barbrook), which is a long way and quite hard going in places. The closest way is probably to park at Goat Hill Bridge car park near Challacombe to get to the stone via Pinkery Pond, which is a nice 3km walk but quite boggy for the last 1km. This weekend we came to the stone from the A39 at Martinhoe Cross, taking the small road as far as possible towards Parracombe Common. After a short walk along a stony path there is an access path to the Chapman Barrows which are easy to follow (and not too boggy), leading you to the longstone.
