17th February: It's nice to see everyone opening up after their winter breaks . . . pubs, tea rooms, restaurants, etc., and the best news is that the Cliff Railway has reopened. The water-powered railway is a popular attraction, but it is also practical. The 10-15 minute walk downwards is nice and has excellent views, but we recommend the Cliff Railway for the return journey! Opening times at the moment are 10am to 5pm.

3rd February: Like most of the country we woke up to see everything covered in a blanket of snow this morning. Apparently this is the most snow we have had in North Devon for 18 years. We have seen a few flurries, but nothing like this. We got around North Walk before it all started melting. Here's some pictures of familiar scenes looking slightly different!

28th January: Southcliffe on the radio . . . we were on national radio today, trying to win tickets to see Chris Martin from Coldplay at Absolute Radio. The competition on Christian O'Connell's breakfast show was in the form of a Swapshop, where you have to offer something in excange for tickets. We offered bed and (veggie/vegan) breakfast to Chris and Gwyneth whenever they might be passing! We got on the radio and had a chat about bed and breakfasts, etc., but didn't win. We'll try again tomorrow! PS: We didn't win the next day, but Sue's friend from Arundel did, so Sue got to go anyway. It's probably not a story for here, but she will easily be persuaded to tell you about the day she met Chris Martin if you ask her! 26th January:

18th January: We did the simple walk from Puttsborough to Woolacombe today. If you fancy a beach walk this can't be beaten. It is only about 40 minutes each way, and there is always plenty going on . . . kitesurfers, bodyboarders, etc. Also there is a good place to eat, which always seems to be open called the Red Barn in Woolacombe. . . excellent hot chocolate and Sunday lunches!

4th January: We started redecorating the dining room yesterday. When we took off the pink and white stripes we revealed the previous colours, which must have been from the 70s/80s . . . wood effect on the bottom half and a kind of tan colour on the top! Some of our guests might remember this colour scheme? We haven't decided on colours yet, but we must admit these are kind-of growing on us . . . quick, get out the magnolia!

1st January: We started the New Year by visiting a wintry Clovelly today. One of the village's brochures describes short walks along the Coastal Path in either direction. We chose the one towards Hartland which ends at Mouthmill Cove. On a clear day it is possible to see Lundy and as far as Morte Point and Baggy Point in the distance. Today was misty, but it was a good walk, with plenty of points of interest described in the flyer/map. Our walk was four and a half miles. The one in the other direction gives views of Clovelly harbour and is three miles. Most people who have visited North Devon before have probably been to Clovelly, but we thought one of these walks might make it worth visiting again.
