February 8th:
Watersmeet has beaten over 70 National Trust sites to win £20,000 worth of funding from Bovril's Great Outdoors Revival (mentioned here last September). The money is to repair the Lyn Rock Bridge which was badly damaged by a falling tree a few years ago. When the bridge is mended it will allow access to that part of the path on the way to and from Watersmeet from Lynmouth. The Lyn Rock Bridge campaign received 2,289 public votes to win the funding. Information about the Great Outdoors Revival can be seen at www.bovril.co.uk/revival

January 2nd:
We have been finding some interesting new walks from the official website of the South West Coastal Path lately, and today we tried the one called Ilfracombe and the Torrs. The walk starts at the harbour and passes the Landmark Theatre, the Tunnels beaches and Torrs Park then climbs to the area known as the Torrs or Seven Hills and back along the coastal path. We followed a print-out from the South West Coastal Path website (copies in the lounge) which had lots of interesting information about Ilfracombe and was very easy to follow.
