29th July:
Our guests Margrith and Philip enjoyed walking the stretch of the coastal path between Porlock Weir and here yesterday. The 12-mile walk is a good 'all day' distance, and the bus service is perfect, dropping you off at Porlock, just 20 minutes from Porlock Weir. Another idea is to drive to County Gate (where the main road virtually meets the coastal path) then get the bus to Porlock and walk back, making it shorter. Coincidentally, our guest Perrti sent us this picture of the area today. This is the view towards Porlock from Sugarloaf Hill.

22nd July:
Bossington is a beautiful village between Porlock and Selworthy, worth visiting for the rocky beach and the very nice tea garden. Also it is possible to park at Bossington to walk to Porlock Weir in one direction, or Selworthy in the other. Today we stopped into the nearby Exmoor Falconry at Allerford (which also has a nice tea garden, pictured). It houses various birds of prey including owls and several displays happen at set times during day (Eagle flights, etc.) so it is probably worth finding out the times before planning a visit. The road between Lynton and Minehead offers superb views in all directions on a clear day and there are plenty of scenic car parks along the way. We stopped at our favourite, which is not only the one where the Exmoor ponies seem to congregate, but also the one where the ice cream van is.

19th July:
Several of our guests recently enjoyed a trip with Blue Motors, who use vintage buses to take people on various trips around Exmoor. There are a few coming up, so here are the dates: Wednesday 22nd July - Over Dunkery (Horner for tea), Thursday 6th August - Over Exmoor, Thursday 20th August - Heather Drive. Also the 401 Exmoor Link service starts at the end of the month, which means you can get buses to Watersmeet, Hillsford Bridge, Exford, Withypool, Winsford, Tarr Steps and Dulverton without taking the car!
9th July:
Our guests Dave and Pat tried the walk from Hartland Quay to the waterfall at Speke's Mill yesterday. This is something we will try outselves soon to describe in detail, but they said the walk was about a mile and quite steep in places. As we have mentioned here before Hartland makes a great day out as it is not too far away, and there is plenty to do there. Apparently the wild flower gardens and tea room at Docton Mill were nice too!
6th July:
We tested the woodland path to Lee Bay yesterday. The idea was to make the walk to the Lee Abbey tea cottage more circular but using the woodland paths after descending Southcliffe. It was nice to make the walk slightly more circular, but the woodland walk was probably not as nice as the toll road which has spectacular views towards Lee Bay. It was worth a try, and not too much of a hardship having another one of their excellent cream teas!
1st July:
We mentioned this last month, and just wanted to show it again this month to give more people a chance of seeing it. We are trying to identify this painting for a lady who contacted us recently. We know it is somewhere in North Devon, but not sure exactly where. If anyone has any ideas please email us.
