| May 25th: The Tea Cottage at Lee Abbey is open again for the Summer (Tuesday to Saturday) until 10th September. Set in a lovely cottage garden and offering a wide home-made menu it makes a great place to stop if you are heading in the Hunter's Inn or Woody Bay direction. It would be possible to use the car park at Lee Bay as a starting point for a walk to Woody Bay or Hunter's Inn. Another way is to walk from here via Southcliffe (which gives wonderful views over the Valley of Rocks) then through the woodland paths that come out directly by the tea cottage. The walk can be made circular by walking back along the toll road and through the Valley of Rocks. Another possibility is to go the lazy way by car along the toll road (as we did today) for lunch! |

| May 8th: |Whenever you go through the Valley of Rocks there always seems to be someone who has made the climb up Castle Rock. It is well worth it for the views back through the Valley and also Westwards towards Woody Bay. We did it ourselves yesterday and at the top we saw the youngest goat kid we have seen. Even the youngest goats are quite sure-footed, so this one must have been newly-born because apart from being tiny it was also very wobbly. It's mum was very protective and kept a watchful eye on us. |

| May 3rd: Yesterday we investigated a small part of the Coastal Path that we had not been on before. Parking at the Foreland Point car park, we made a circular walk by heading east for a while, cutting down to meet the Coastal Path and turning inland just before Foreland Point. It would be possible to extend this to County Gate or over Foreland Point itself. Quite a lot of the coastal path between Porlock and Lynton is in woodland and has restricted views. Some areas are totally covered with Rhododendrons, which some people do not like because they crowd out the native plants . . . but they do look lovely! Thanks to Julie and Alan for sending us their pictures of the Valley of Rocks taken from Southcliffe, which show how wonderful the views are even in slightly hazy conditions. We have put larger versions on our local pictures page. It is worth the climb over Southcliffe for the panoramic views and we hope to get up there regularly ourselves soon when the Lee Abbey tea garden opens and we have the incentive of a cream tea waiting for us. |

| May 1st: Hunters Inn makes is a perfect place to head for if you fancy walking west from Lynton. To walk there and back is about 10 miles. Alternatively you can get the bus to Paracombe and walk back (about 7 miles). We fancied something smaller yesterday, so we parked at Woody Bay car park and walked from there (about two miles each way). There is a higher and a lower path (just visible in the picture on the right), which makes the walk different in each direction. The waterfall on the higher path is usually more spectacular when we have had more rain. |
