27th December: We dragged ourselves away from the mulled wine and mince pies today and did a short walk. The usual route from Lynmouth to Watersmeet is lovely, but sometimes it makes a change to start at Watersmeet and walk to Rockford which is about the same distance. It is possible to make the walk circular (over Countisbury), or just take the alternative river path on the way back. Watersmeet looks so different when the trees are bare. We were lucky to see a deer in a clearing about half way to Rockford.

24th December: Happy Christmas everyone! We have received cards from all over the country as well as Italy, Germany and Finland. There is no more room in the guest lounge to hang them! It has been so nice to hear from everyone. It's pretty quiet here at this time of the year, so not much to report on the blog, but in the new year we are planning a new-look website, and the blog will remain! Happy Christmas everyone, and best wishes for 2009!

3rd December: The Christmas trees have been put up at the Town Hall ready for 'Light Up Lynton' this weekend, which is the official turning-on of the Christmas lights. We have been very organised this year and ours went up last weekend . . . although officially of course they won't be turned on until Saturday!

25th November: We are always on the lookout for new recipes and ideas to put on the menus. In the quieter months we get time to try them out. Recently we tested a recipe we found for hemjord granola that looked interesting, using totally different ingredients to Sue's usual granola. Some things work, some don't. Let's just say this one won't be appearing on the breakfast buffet table!

8th November: We were visited by the Visit Britain hotel inspector recently, and we have now received his report. We are happy to say that everything is as it should be, and we have been given a silver award for the fourth year running.
