Apologies for the lack of entries lately, we have been away for a couple of weeks and since we have been back the weather has not been nice enough to do any walks worth mentioning.
We got back just in time for 'Light up Lynton' on the 1st, when the lights on the Town Hall are turned on and most of the town turns on their Christmas lights. Also, yesterday was late night shopping in Lynton. The rain held off for a while and lots of people were browsing and trying the mulled wine! The picture on the left is in the Craft Market.
The BBC Top Gear team were filming in Lynmouth recently, so look out for a feature using Exmoor as a location.

Yesterday we investigated a walk from the Winter Exmoor magazine which showed a 5-mile circular walk from Winsford. This is probably not one that we would recommend . . . too much of the walk was boggy, although there were some great views at times. An interesting part of the walk was seeing the Caractacus Stone (pictured) which is thought to commemorate a nephew of Caractacus, leader of the Silures of Wales who lead a resistance movement against the Romans ad43-51. Also worth mentioning is the very good Bridge Cottage Tearoom, Winsford!

We got out for one of the walks we've been meaning to do today. Guests had been telling us of a better version of the Countisbury/Watersmeet walk (written out in the lounge), which is also extendable to Rockford. This version has a nicer way of getting to the Sandpiper (now the Blue Ball Inn), then on to Rockford (lunch in the Rockford Inn), then back along the river to Watersmeet. We came back the Hillsford Bridge way, which added an hour or so. We were lucky to get fairly close to several deer and managed to get some pictures.
