| Many of our guests mention that they keep an eye on our website, so we thought we'd put a few bits of news here that might be of interest, or don't belong anywhere else on the website . . . new walks we hear about, interesting places to visit, etc. We'll try to keep it updated regularly. Sorry if we ramble on a bit! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

24th February: Places are beginning to open for the new season. The Craft Fair, which is just a couple of hundred yards from here, is open again. Most restaurants are now open in Lynton and the Cliff Railway is open again after winter maintenance, so it is easy to get down and back from Lynmouth again, and most things are open there. Watersmeet is closed at the moment, but will certainly be open by Easter (nothing on the National Trust website at the moment). Our guest Mary did a walk from a book called 'Walk Devon', which went round North Walk, out to Watersmeet, and back via Countisbury (9 miles). This is an easy walk to follow from an ordinary map, but it is nice to have it described in a book which also mentions points of interest. We will have a look for the book, which must have some other good walks in it.

15th February: The granola ingredients arrived today. It's amazing how much there is . . . this is just the dry ingredients, probably enough for the year. Sue is also experimenting with a new Luxury Granola this year . . . watch this space.

4th February: The new signs went up this weekend. They are a big improvement on the old ones, which were a bit too dark. There is also a new typeface, which matches the website and all our stationery/menus, etc. Sue has ordered huge amounts of granola ingredients as usual, and will start baking and jam/marmalade making in the next couple of days. We're nearly ready to open again . . . the old boiler has even been taken away!

28th January: The Lynton Cinema has reopened after being closed for a couple of weeks for refurbishment. There is a new list of what's on, and we've put it on our Cinema Guide page. We are looking forward to reopening on the 8th February. New signs are coming for the front of the house, new menus being printed, various improvements have taken place while we have been closed, the biggest of which is not very exciting . . . we have a new boiler. It's supposed to be really fuel-efficient . . . we'll see! The old boiler looks lovely sitting in our drive still and must be gone before the 8th. Has anyone got a big van?

1st January: Happy New Year everyone! We decided to put the new-look website online for the New Year. It's still 'under construction' but most of it is working, we think, and this is pretty-much how it will look. We welcome any feedback and please let us know of any glaring problems! We started the New Year with a walk from one of the books in the lounge that we had been meaning to do, and several guests had tried. The book said it was five miles. In fact our new GPS measuring device said it was slightly less! The walk was a loop around Minehead, starting from North Hill, which was a zig-zag walk through the woods, very similar to the walk from Lynmouth to Lynton. After the initial climb the walk was easy-going, with lovely views towards Wales and over Minehead. In the picture you can see Butlins on the left, and just to the right of that the puff of steam is from the West Somerset Steam Railway.
