Many of our guests mention that they keep an eye on our website, so we thought we'd put a few bits of news here that might be of interest, or don't belong anywhere else on the website . . . new walks we hear about, interesting places to visit, etc. We'll try to keep it updated regularly. Sorry if we ramble on a bit!

Thanks to Kerry who stayed recently for leaving us his excellent pictures. Over the years we have built up quite a library of Kerry's pictures, both locally and further afield, and many of the pictures on the website and in our other advertising are his. These are from the Eden Project, Tintagel and a scene taken near County Gate.

Yesterday was the 24th Doone Run, and the first over the shorter 10-mile distance. For those who know the area, the start is now in Lynmouth, passing through Watersmeet, Hillsford Bridge, Myrtleberry, past the Bridge Inn to Lynway, through the paths at the back of Lynton to climb Southcliffe, down to Lee Abbey joining North Walk at Castle Rock, then down the zig-zag path to finish back on Lynmouth Green. The race was won in a time of 1hr 4min. (6.25 mins per mile)! Thanks to our guest Kerry for the picture.

Thanks to Jo and Tony who stayed recently, for sending us this excellent picture of the Valley of Rocks taken from Hollerday Hill. It's one of the nicest we've seen. We've put a full-size version on the gallery page and we'll use it on the front page when we redo the website in the winter.

The Tour of Britain cycle race came through Lynmouth yesterday. The 105-mile Second Stage of the event started in Yeovil and did a loop around Exmoor before finishing back in Taunton. Apparently Porlock Hill is one of the most anticipated climbs of the event! We didn't manage to get down to Lynmouth to watch yesterday, so thanks to our neighbour Trevor for this picture.

The North Devon Fire Stations Motorcycles run started in Lynton today. Riders of modern and classic motorcycles will stop at 15 fire stations in the area, finishing at Barnstaple. Money raised goes to the Fire Services National Benevolent Fund.

Yesterday our guests John, Rita and Dianne enjoyed a visit to the Blue Hill Tin Mines near St Agnes, Cornwall. As well as looking round the mines, you get to see how the tin is mined and collected and how items like jewellery are made. The drive takes about two and a half hours (about the same as the Eden Project), mostly on the A39. We thought this might be quite a good thing to do if you fancied a trip to Cornwall, maybe on a wet weather day. Rita and Dianne brought back some nice jewellery, which can be seen on the Blue Hills website: http://www.bluehillstin.com
